K-12 Online Classroom Companion starts 9/17

by Steve O'Keefe <excerptsnews@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 23, 2004 at 02:20 PM

Ripley Entertainment has added a new wrinkle to "Science
Friday" with an online classroom companion program for
junior high school science teachers. The program, entitled
"Ripley's Freaky Fridays" teaches the wonders of science
and collaborative technology through a 10-week guided
discussion program at ePALS.com.

Every Friday, from September 17 through November 19, two
superstar teachers will guide classroom discussion on such
topics as Wild Weather, Marine Marvels, and The Unusual
Universe. These live chats are held in the Classroom
Companion chat room at ePALS.com from 1-2 p.m. Eastern Time
(10-11 a.m. Pacific Time).

The superstar teachers are Marilyn Steneken, recipient of
the 2003 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science
Teaching, who teaches life science at Sparta Middle School
in New Jersey, and Leslie Blanchard, the technology
facilitator for the Iberville Parish (Louisiana) School
District. Leslie won the 2002 Presidential Award for
Excellence in Science Teaching while teaching junior high
school science in Iberville Parish.

Teachers must pre-register for their classrooms to be able
to participate in the program. If you would like more
information, including guidelines for using the program as
a learning tool, just send mailto:steveokeefe@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
the subject line: "Send Freaky Fridays" and I'll reply
with the guidelines.

Ripley's Freaky Fridays is part of the 75th anniversary
celebration for Ripley Publi****ng, creators of that
incredible compendium of unusual facts -- "Ripley's Believe
It or Not!" -- which will appear in a lavishly illustrated
new edition this fall.
