Possibly to wound up by the boistrous play or schedule change. Is this an
unusual (going to dh's sisters) or a regular event?
At two it could also be to long a nap, or to late a nap, or conversly...no
nap at all.

Well what I do may not work for you but I don't generally have any
problems
at all at bedtime but my 2yo doesn't sleep through the night either
(although we co-sleep). I lay down with mine so he is generally agreeable
to lay there. If he wants to come back down stairs and I know he is tired
I'll initially tell him know. He might cry for 30 seconds and lay back
down
but if he continues to insist and has been laying there awhile without
falling asleep I let him come back down - even if I know he is tired. I'm
not up for prolonged bed time battles. This works for me because he does
eventually go to sleep. I suppose some kids would be up till 1am with
this
method but mine have never done that. Maybe because bedtime is never
been
a battle of wills, and maybe it is just because that is the way my kids
are

You can buy brackets to keep the bookcase and dresser safe.
